Weather Guide
During winter weather events, please monitor the DTA’s website (sign up for Service Alerts for the latest on weather and construction service changes) and social media accounts, and/or the City of Duluth’s Communications Office News Releases @ [email protected] for information on City of Duluth plowing schedules and DTA bus service curtailments.
At the DTA we realize members of the public need transportation during winter weather events. We also prioritize safety as a critical success factor. With those two considerations in mind:
- If streets are being maintained and are compatible with safe transit service, we will operate as normal
- If conditions become unsafe, we will notify the public as soon as possible prior to partially or completely pausing service
During an Extreme Winter Weather Event, we may:
- Implement alternative “Emergency Mainline” Bus Service along the main east -west corridor of Duluth if conditions were warranted (it becomes unsafe or impossible to traverse hills).
- Cancel service for the remainder of the day if arterial (main) roads become unsafe or are forecasted to worsen to unsafe conditions.
If a major snowstorm is in the forecast, please consider taking shopping and other flexible-timed trips prior to the forecasted severe weather. Major snow events nearly always at least cause delays, and in many cases make pedestrian and transit travel more complicated. Thank you for helping us be prepared for the winter season ahead.
