Downtown Days Detour (formerly Sidewalk Days) – Rider Information
Dates & Times
• Wednesday, July 8: Base detour all day (7:30 AM – 8:30 PM). Car show in the evening.
• Thursday, July 9: Base detour daytime (7:30 AM – 5:30 PM), then lighter Block Party detour (5:30 PM – 9:30 PM).
• Friday, July 10 (Rain Date for Car Show only): If needed, base detour will be in effect 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
General Notes for Riders
• Buses will still welcome passengers at any nearside corner on 1st Street during detours.
• Drivers will be watching for riders — flag them down if needed.
• Expect delays due to rerouting around the event area.
• The Thursday evening block party is a separate, smaller event from the annual Dubh Linn’s block party (separate notice for that one).
Base Detour (Main Reroute) – Wed 7:30am-8:30pm & Thu 7:30am-5:30pm
This affects many routes with significant rerouting through the DTC (Downtown Transit Center) area using Michigan St, 1st Ave W, 1st St, 5th Ave W, etc.
Blue Line
• Eastbound (to 24th Ave E / UMD area): Uses 5th Ave W → Michigan St → DTC → 1st Ave W → 1st St → 3rd Ave E back to Superior.
• Westbound (to Spirit Valley): Uses 3rd Ave E → 1st St → 5th Ave W → Michigan St → DTC → then loops out via 1st Ave W → Frontage Rd → back to Superior.
Green Line
• To Mall: From DTC via Michigan St → 1st Ave W → 1st St → 3rd Ave E.
• From Mall: 3rd Ave E → 1st St → 5th Ave W → Michigan St → DTC.
• Similar pattern to Blue Line: Eastbound uses 5th Ave W / Michigan / DTC / 1st St routing.
• Westbound mirrors the Blue Line westbound detour.
Other Routes (104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 113, 114) follow variations of the same core detour:
• Many go through the DTC via Michigan St.
• Use 1st St, 5th Ave W, and Frontage Rd as alternates.
• Some shift to 2nd St or 3rd St / 4th Ave W in one direction.
Best tip: Routes will be on or near 1st Street much more than usual. Check real-time tracking or ask drivers.
Thursday Evening Block Party Detour (5:30 PM – 9:30 PM)
Lighter impact – only affects Blue Line, 103, 105, and 106.
Eastbound (towards UMD) – Blue/103/105/106: Turn left at 1st Ave E → 2nd St → 3rd Ave E back to Superior.
Westbound (from UMD) – Blue/103/105/106: At 3rd Ave E / Superior → right on 3rd Ave E → 1st St → 1st Ave E → Superior.
All other routes should be back to normal or on the base detour until 5:30 PM.
Rain Date (Friday July 10)
If the Car Show is rescheduled to Friday, the full base detour applies 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
Plan ahead, allow extra time, and use the 1st Street stops as backup boarding locations. Safe travels during Downtown Days!
