UPDATE 10/4 2:40pm: parade is over. Route 111 is back on regular route
Superior High School’s Homecoming Parade will be on a new route this year due to availability of emergency routes that would normally include Hammond Ave. This new routing will close Catlin Ave from 16th St to Superior High School. This closure will create the need for a detour for Route 111 on Friday October 4th, 2024. Setup is expected to begin at 11am and they expect to reopen Catlin Ave by 3pm. We will set up the following temporary stops to assist passengers during this detour. One pair on Mortorelli near the entrance to lots 3A&3B just East of Ostrander Hall. A second pair near the intersections of 21st St with Motorelli Dr and Grand Ave, and temporary stops on 25th St just East of Hill Ave near the Superior Children’s Center (see detour routing). We will resume regular routing as soon as Catlin Ave is open again, but during the transition time as the parade ends it may be best to seek out stops that are unaffected. DTA staff will be pulling temporary stops as soon as Catlin has reopened.
Route 111 to Itasca: From Eastbound Belknap, continue passed Catlin Ave to Mertz Motorelli Memorial Drive (the Next Right before Marathon Gas) turn onto Mortorelli and check temporary stop mentioned above. Follow Mortorelli until 21st and turn Left. Take 21st and be on the lookout for temporary stop again. Take 21st to Hill Ave being careful to obey the railroad crossing. Turn right onto Hill Ave and proceed to 25th St and turn left. Use the parking lot of the Mariner Business Center to safely negotiate a loop. Despite map below operators will be using only as much room as they need to make a turnaround. Exit parking lot and go westbound on 25th St and return to Hill Ave and turn right. Follow northbound Hill Ave to 21st St and turn right to resume regular routing.
Route 111 to Downtown Superior: Reverse of above routing, being careful with left turn onto Belknap St off of Mortorelli.
