Outbound: Via regular route to Kenwood Avenue and Skyline Parkway, then detour, east (right) onto Skyline Parkway, left onto West Kent Road, left onto 19th Avenue East, enter College of St. Scholastica straight across from College Street, run through College and exit at College Street, left onto Kenwood Avenue and regular route to UMD.

Inbound: Reverse of Outbound

#7 Lakeside Buses to detour as follows:

Eastbound: Via regular routing to 36th Avenue East and Superior Street, then detour south on 36th A.E., east on London Road, north on 43rd Avenue East to Superior Street and regular routing.

Westbound: Reverse routing of above.

There will be a detour right on 28th St then left into the Jubillee Parking Lot and then back to Tower Ave.

This is only for the Outbound 17 - Inbound there is no detour

Detour could last a couple of days.

Effective Monday, March 3, 2008, route 18 buses will board passengers at Shelter A, and then run via Kirby Drive to St. Marie Street, left to Junction Avenue, to College Street and regular route.

Service to St. Scholastical will be provided by Boulder Ridge - Campus Park Housing Shuttle. Check with the apartment complex office for schedule information.

Effective Monday, April 14, 2008, DTA buses will board and deboard passengers by the LSC East Entrance near the parking lot. A temporary bus stop sign will be placed at this location, This change will last until the completion of the construction, mid to late August 2008.

Weekday buses leaving 14th & Tower Avenue at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. will terminate at 40th Street & Tower Avenue. The 11:40 a.m. and the 1:40 p.m. trips from South Superior will be discontinued.

Saturday buses leaving 14th & Tower Avenue at 11:57 a.m., 1:57 p.m., and 3:57 p.m. will terminate at 40th Street & Tower Avenue. The 12:20 p.m., 2:20 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. trips from South Superior will be discontinued

North End Superior Weekday Service: From North End Superior to Tower Avenue & 14th Street will be provided every 1/2 hour during the peak hours of 7:00a.m. to 9:00a.m. and 2:50p.m. to 6:00p.m. Transfers to Itasca, Billings Park, or South Superior will be made on Tower Avenue.

North End Superior Off-Peak and Weekends: Passengers wanting to travel to Itasca, or transfer to the Billings Park, South Superior bus will have to find alternate ways to downtown Superior.

Garfield Avenue and Goodwill Industries: Service to Garfield Avenue and Goodwill Industries will depart from the Holiday Inn at 7:02a.m., 8:02a.m., and 12:00 noon. Service from Goodwill Industries to downtown Duluth will not be affected. Passengers on Garfield Avenue and Goodwill Industries wanting to go to Superior, WI will have to go to downtown Duluth and transfer to a Superior bus.

The DTA does not anticipate any major delays in service during this time. Passengers should expect buses to run as scheduled

WESTBOUND BUSES will be detoured to First Street from 14th Avenue East

EASTBOUND BUSES will be detoured along Second Street to 12th Avenue East.

This detour will be in effect until approximately 2 p.m. DTA service to Park Point will not begin on Saturday, June 21 until the completion of the race at approximately 2 p.m.

Route 16 buses going to Duluth will be detoured to the Bong bridge and routed as follows: From Itasca, buses will run regular route to Tower Ave & 14th Street. Then run via Tower Avenue to Winter Street, left (west) on Winter Street to Banks Avenue, left (south) on Banks Avenue to Belknap Street, right (west) on Belknap Street to the Bong Bridge, freeway, Mesaba Avenue exit to Superior Street, Superior Street and regular route.

North End Superior:Passengers traveling to Duluth will have to board the bus coming from Duluth and headed to downtown Superior/Itasca. Passengers will transfer on Tower Avenue to the Duluth bound bus.

Garfield Avenue and Goodwill Industries: Service from Goodwill Industries and Garfield Avenue to downtown Duluth will depart from Goodwill Industries at 12:15p.m., 3:34p.m. and 4:30p.m. With these exceptions, passengers wanting to go downtown Duluth will have to take the bus going to Superior, WI and transfer on Tower Avenue to the Route 16 bus to Duluth.

Buses from Duluth, MN to Superior, WI will run regular route

All DTA Route 16 buses will resume regular route between Duluth, MN and Superior, WI.

WEDNESDAY DAY-TIME DETOUR - JULY 9 ~ 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Buses will be detoured off of Superior Street between 5th A.W. and 3rd A.E., from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DETOUR - JULY 9 ~ 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. In an effort to accommodate the Classic Car Show on Wednesday night, DTA buses will be detoured off of Superior Street between 5th Avenue West and 3rd Avenue East, from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

THURSDAY DETOUR - JULY 10 ~ 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Buses will be detoured off of Superior Street between 5th A.W. and 3rd A.E., from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ROCK THE BLOCK CONCERT ~ THURSDAY NIGHT - JULY 12 ~ 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. DTA buses will continue day-time detour until 8 p.m. for Thursday night’s "Rock the Block" concert.

FRIDAY DETOUR - JULY 11 ~ 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Buses will be detoured off of Superior Street between 5th A.W. and 3rd A.E., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

EASTBOUND HILLSIDE BUSES: The DTA will re-route eastbound and hillside buses (routes #6, #7, #8, #11, #12 and #13) onto Michigan Street between 5th A.W. and 3rd A.E.

WESTBOUND & DULUTH-SUPERIOR BUSES (#1, #2, #3, #4, #9 & #16) will be rerouted onto First Street between 3rd A.E. and 5th A.W.

MALL BUSES (routes #10 & #14) will be re-routed onto Michigan Street between 5th A.W. and 1st A.E.

PARK POINT BUSES will be re-routed from Superior Street onto Michigan St. between 5th A.W. and 1st A.E.

TROLLEY will be re-routed from Superior Street onto 1st and 2nd Streets between 3rd A.E. and 5th A.W.

DTA buses will board riders at temporary bus stops along First Street and Michigan Street.

Since the Downtown Transit Center and Holiday Center Bus Stop will not be serviced by buses during this detour, DTA riders are advised to transfer at the Library or Radisson bus stops during Sidewalk Days for easy connections to other buses.

Shoppers are encouraged to avoid traffic congestion and parking during the Downtown Sidewalk Days event by riding the bus into the downtown area.

The DTA will temporarily detour weekday Route 9 and Route 14P buses traveling to the Park & Ride lot.

Route 9 to Piedmont will detour as follows:

Weekday Route 9 buses will run regular route to Piedmont Avenue & Chambersburg Avenue. Buses will then detour via Chambersburg Avenue, Morris Thomas Road, and Haines Road to Piedmont Avenue. Buses will delay on Piedmont Avenue south of Haines Road before returning to downtown. Passengers with destinations on Piedmont Avenue between Chambersburg Avenue & Haines Road will have to alight at Chambersburg Avenue or at Piedmont Avenue & Haines Road.

Weekday Route 9MT buses from downtown at 6:20a, 6:55a, 7:20a, 7:45a, 8:20a, 8:45a, 4:25p, 4:55p, 5:55p, and 7:20p are designated to run via Morris Thomas Road and will not be detoured for this construction project.

Route 14P will detour as follows:

Route 14P, buses will run regular route to Haines Road & Anderson Road. Buses will then detour via Anderson Road, Decker Road, and Piedmont Avenue to Haines Road. Buses will delay on Piedmont Avenue south of Haines Road before returning to the mall area and downtown.

The Trolley operates daily during summer months with service every 30 minutes between downtown Duluth, Canal Park and Bayfront Park from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Trolley provides service to hotels, restaurants and shops in downtown Duluth and Canal Park.

Trolley fare is 50 cents with $3 day passes available on the Trolley.

Festival Detour For Wednesday through Sunday August 13th to 17th ending around 2pm on Sunday

Outbound: Via regular route to Boundary and 5th Street, then via Boundary Avenue to Zenith Terrace, back on Boundary Avenue to 5th Street, then detour via 5th Street, left on 2nd Avenue, right on 2nd Street to the #3 terminal.

Inbound: From the #3 terminal via regular route to 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue, left on 2nd Avenue, right on 5th Street, right on Boundary Avenue to Zenith Terrace and regular route.

Westbound Via regular route to 3rd Ave East then detour to 1st St and back to Superior St on 1st Ave East and regular route.

Route 4 Busses will detour as follows:

Outbound Via regular route to Mike Colalillo Drive and Ramsey Street, then detour by continuing west on Mike Colalillo Drive, north on Bristol Street, west on Central Avenue and regular route.

Inbound Reverse of outbound.

All #16 Route buses will detour as follows:

Outbound: Via regular route to 21st Avenue East and 5th Street, then detour south (right) on 21st Avenue East to 6th Street, east (left) on 6th Street to 23rd Avenue East, north (left) on 23rd Avenue East to 5th Street and regular route.

Inbound: Reverse routing of outbound detour

The parade will be held between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM. Prior to the parade, line up of parade units will close Broadway between Hammond and Tower. The line up of units will start at 12:45 PM. The parade route will start on Ogden at Broadway and run Ogden and Belknap to Mertz Morterelli Drive.

Route 16 Buses will detour as follows for the parade line up from 12:30 PM to 1:30PM:

Outbound Via regular route to Broadway and Hammond, then detour via north (right) on Hammond, west (left) on Winter Street, south on Tower Avenue and regular route to Mariner Mall/Itasca.

Buses from downtown Superior to Itasca will travel regular route to Belknap Street and Catlin Avenue, then detour by continuing east on Belknap Street to Morterelli Drive, south (right) on to Morterelli Drive to 21st Street, west (right) on 21st Street to Catlin Avenue, south (left) on Catlin Avenue and regular route.

Buses from Itasca to downtown Superior will travel regular to Catlin Avenue and 21st Street, then detour east (right) on 21st Street to to Morterelli Drive, north (left) on Morterelli Drive to Belknap Street, west (left) on Belknap Street and regular route

Passengers will be able to catch their buses at intersections along the detour route.

This detour will last approximately one day.

Since April, DTA buses in the Miller Hill Mall area have been on detour routing for much of that time, due to road construction there. During this time, DTA buses have been unable to provide direct service to Target and Super One Foods on a regular basis.

In order to accommodate the annual Christmas City of the North Parade on Friday November 21, Duluth Transit Authority buses will be detoured from Superior Street, between Fifth Avenue West and Lake Avenue from approximately 6:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. All DTA buses regularly scheduled to travel through the downtown area during the parade will follow the standard DTA parade routing on First and Second Streets.

BUS TO PARADE Parade spectators can avoid traffic congestion and limited downtown parking by taking the DTA to and from the parade. Route and schedule information can be obtained by calling 722-SAVE.

EXTRA BUSES ADDED AFTER THE PARADE: Additional DTA buses will be provided after the parade to supplement regular route service and accommodate the increased demand for bus service.

The closure of Lake Avenue between Superior Street and First Street and DTA detour on First Street is expected to continue for seven months. The DTA anticipates a significant traffic delay on westbound Superior Street at the intersection of Lake Avenue and is moving inbound buses to First Street to maintain a reliable schedule.

Weekday and Saturday route 13 buses from downtown will run regular route to Kent Road and Woodland Avenue. Buses will then detour via East 8th Street, 19th Avenue East, College Street, Kirby Drive, St. Marie Street to Woodland Avenue and regular route. Buses to downtown will run the reverse route.

The lineup for the 2009 Minnesota State H.O.G. Rally Parade will be on Railroad Street from 5th Avenue West to Garfield Avenue starting at 5:30 p.m. The parade of approximately 1200 motorcycles will start at 6:30 p.m.

The trolley will detour as follows:

Via regular route to Michigan Street and 5th Avenue West. Then via 5th Avenue West, turn right by the Aquarium, and run to Railroad Street to Canal Park Drive and regular route..

When the Harley’s start lining up for the parade, buses will travel via regular route to Michigan Street and 5th Avenue West. Then via 5th Avenue West, left on freeway at the top of the bridge, and will remain in the right lane to Lake Avenue, Canal Park Drive and return to regular route.

Thursday, June 25, will be the first “Rock the Block” concert and Superior Street will close to all traffic between 5th Avenue West and 6th Avenue West from 1:30 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. All buses will detour as follows:

Eastbound Via regular route to Superior Street and 6th Avenue West, then detour via south (right) on 6th Avenue West, east (left) on Michigan Street, north (left) on 5th Avenue West, east on Superior Street and regular route.

In order to accommodate the annual Christmas City of the North Parade on Friday November 20, Duluth Transit Authority buses will be detoured from Superior Street, between Fifth Avenue West and Lake Avenue from approximately 6:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. All DTA buses regularly scheduled to travel through the downtown area during the parade will follow the standard DTA parade routing on First and Second Streets.

BUS TO PARADE: Parade spectators can avoid traffic congestion and limited downtown parking by taking the DTA to and from the parade. Route and schedule information can be obtained by calling 722-SAVE.

The Duluth Transit Authority is returning buses serving the Miller Hill Mall area to pre-road construction routing on Sunday, January 3rd.

Due to major road construction in the Miller Hill Mall area that began last spring, the DTA revised the way it served the Miller Hill Mall area last April. Not all “Mall buses” provided service beyond the Mall’s Door 8 Bus Stop and a Mall Area Connector shuttle was introduced for service beyond the Miller Hill Mall. These changes were implemented to avoid schedule delays.

Beginning January 3rd, the DTA will return Route 10, 10H buses to its pre-construction routing for direct service beyond the Miller Hill Mall to Village Mall, K-Mart, Target, Burning Tree Plaza and Super One. As a result, the Mall Area Connector will be discontinued, along with direct service to Penney’s. New daily service, however, will be added to Kohl’s on midday and Saturday Route 14 buses.

As a result of the January 3rd service changes in the Miller Hill Mall area, minor schedule, routing and inter-lining (connecting bus routes) changes will be implemented on Route 6 (Midday schedule and interlining), Route 7 (Saturday interlining), Route 9 (Saturday schedule and routing), Route 10 (Mall Routing), Route 11 (Midday schedule), Route 14 (Midday routing and Saturday schedule and routing), and Route 15 (Saturday schedule).

These routes operate only during fall and spring semesters and will return to service when fall semester 2010 resumes.

The Duluth Transit Authority will return the Port Town Trolley to the streets of Duluth for the summer beginning Sunday, June 6. The Trolley, which circulates every half-hour between downtown Duluth, Canal Park and Bayfront, operates on a daily basis from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the summer until Labor Day.

The Trolley will return service east of Lake Avenue to Fitger’s this year. Last summer, the DTA suspended Trolley service east of Lake Avenue to avoid schedule delays, as Lake Avenue was closed to traffic during skywalk construction between Superior Street and First Street.

Trolley serves downtown & Canal Park hotels – restaurants - shops & attractions

The Trolley operates along Superior Street between Fitger’s and Sixth Avenue West, along Canal Park Drive, and along the Bayfront. The Trolley stops at downtown bus stops along Superior Street including: Fitger's, Sheraton Hotel, Fond Du Luth Casino, the Holiday Center and Radisson Hotel. The Trolley also serves the Depot Heritage/ Arts Center & Railroad Museum, Bayfront Park, Great Lakes Aquarium, Vista Fleet Excursion Dock, S/S William A. Irvin, Duluth 10/Omnimax Theaters, the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace, Maritime Visitor Center/Aerial Lift Bridge and other locations along Canal Park Drive.

Trolley fare is 50 cents – Trolley Day Passes sold on Trolley for $3

The Trolley fare is 50 cents with children four and under riding free. Unlimited-ride Trolley Day Passes are available for $3 on the Trolley and Downtown Transit Center.

The Port Town Trolley will, however, provide service between downtown Duluth, Canal Park and Fitger’s during this time. Tall Ships Festival attendees will be able to access the Bayfront and festival area from the Depot’s trolley stop or Canal Park’s Minnesota Slip Bridge, where admission tickets will be sold.

During the Tall Ships Festival, the Trolley will not provide direct service to Bayfront Park, the Great Lakes Aquarium, the Duluth-Superior Excursion Dock, S/S William A. Irvin or the Omnimax/Duluth 10 theaters. Instead, the Trolley will travel east along Superior Street to Lake Avenue after departing the Depot. (See attached Trolley detour map)

The Trolley operates daily during summer months with service every 30 minutes from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Trolley will resume its regular routing sometime on August 2nd, once Harbor Drive is opened to traffic.

Due to construction work on Superior Street and Third A.E. between Superior Street and First Street, DTA buses will be detoured from a section of Superior Street and Third A.E. beginning Monday, August 16th.

Buses will operate on Second A.E. instead of Third A.E. and buses will not serve the Transit Station on Third A.E. during the construction. Temporary bus stops will be placed on Second A.E. during the detour. This detour will continue into November. See detour routing.

Third Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets in Proctor will be closed during the Hoghead Festival; and route #3 buses will detour throughout the Hoghead Festival with a separate detour during the parade on Saturday.

Hoghead Festival Detour – Thursday through Sunday, August 18-22

DTA buses to Proctor will run regular routing to Boundary Avenue and Fifth Street, then detour via Boundary Avenue to Zenith Terrace, Boundary Avenue to Fifth Street, then detour via 5th Street, 2nd Avenue, 2nd Street and regular route.

DTA buses from Proctor will run detour in reverse.

This detour will end at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 22nd.

Hoghead Parade Detour – 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 21

During Saturday’s parade, DTA buses to Proctor will run regular routing to Boundary Avenue and Fifth Street, then detour via Boundary Avenue into Zenith Terrace, Boundary Avenue, Highway #2, Second Street and regular route.

DTA buses from Proctor will run detour in reverse during the parade.

After the parade, DTA buses will return to the “Festival Detour.”

Route #18 provides weekday service along Arrowhead Road and Rice Lake Road between Pecan Avenue and Central Entrance, with stops at Campus Park Housing, Boulder Ridge, Summit Ridge Apartments, College of St. Scholastica and UMD. Route #18 provides hourly service from 7:23 a.m. and 11:36 p.m. on weekdays.

Route #18 service is provided from September through May during fall and spring semesters; but does not provide service when UMD is on semesters or holiday breaks.

Route #13U provides additional support service for route #13 (UMD – Woodland via East Fourth Street) during fall and spring semesters where student ridership is traditionally strong. Only the route #13U trip departing the Downtown Transit Center at 7:15 a.m. is operated year-round.

TO DOWNTOWN via regular route to Piedmont Avenue and 24th Avenue West, then detour by continuing on Piedmont Avenue, off ramp to 21st Avenue West and regular route.

FROM DOWNTOWN via regular route to 21st Avenue West and 1st Street, then detour onto the Piedmont Avenue ramp, Piedmont Avenue and regular route to Piedmont.

Detour is expected to continue until mid-September when construction work is scheduled to be completed.

Route #18 service is provided from September through May during fall and spring semesters; but does not provide service when UMD is on semesters or holiday breaks.

Route #13U provides additional support service for route #13 (UMD – Woodland via East Fourth Street) during fall and spring semesters where student ridership is traditionally strong. Only the route #13U trip departing the Downtown Transit Center at 7:15 a.m. is operated year-round.

Route #13U buses will begin service to UMD from Sixth Avenue East and Fourth Street this year rather than downtown Duluth, with the exception of two trips departing the Downtown Transit Center at 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. All route #13U trips departing UMD will continue to provide service to downtown as in previous years.

Route #16 Itasca buses will operate on detour routing to accommodate the EAST END FAMILY DAYS celebration on Saturday, September 18, as East Fifth Street between 21st Avenue East and 23rd Avenue East will be closed from approximately 7 a.m. through the remainder of the day. 

All Route #16 buses will detour as follows:

FROM DULUTH:  Buses will run regular route to 21st Avenue East and 5th Street, then detour north on 21st Avenue East to 4th Street, east on 4th Street to 23rd Avenue East, south on 23rd Avenue East to 5th Street and regular route.

TO DULUTH:  Reverse routing of outbound detour.

DTA routes 10H, 11K and 13 will be detoured to accommodate the HILL-FEST CELEBRATION, which will be held on Saturday, September 18, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sixth Avenue East between 3rd Street and 5th Street, and 4th Street between 5th Avenue East to 7th Avenue East will be closed to traffic during the event.

Buses routed in this area will detour as follows:

FROM DOWNTOWN:  Via regular route to 2nd Street and 6th Avenue East, then detour by continuing east on 2nd Street, north on 7th Avenue East, west on 5th Street, north on 6th Avenue East and regular route.

Due to the Superior Senior High School Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 1 the DTA will detour Route #16 Duluth-Superior buses off sections of its regular route between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

OUTBOUND BUSES will run regular route to Catlin Avenue and 21st Street, then detour via east on 21st Street, south on Hill Avenue to 28th Street and regular route to Mariner Mall/Itasca.

OUTBOUND BUSES will run regular route to Belknap and Catlin Avenue, then detour north on Catlin Avenue, east on 12th Street, south (right) on Poplar Avenue, east on Belknap, south on Hill Avenue to Mariner Mall and regular route to Itasca.

INBOUND BUSES will run regular route to Mariner Mall, then detour by exiting Mariner Mall, north on Hill Avenue, west on Belknap Street, north on Poplar Avenue, west on 12th Street, south on Catlin Avenue, west on Belknap Street and regular route.

There will be no detour during the homecoming parade for Route 17 - Billings Park/South Superior buses.

Ugstad Road is compacted gravel but is open for our use. The road will receive new blacktop next year.

Duluth Transit Authority buses will be detoured from Superior Street, between Fifth Avenue West and Lake Avenue from approximately 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to accommodate the annual Christmas City of the North Parade on Friday November 19, All DTA buses regularly scheduled to travel through the downtown area during the parade will follow the standard DTA parade routing on First and Second Streets.

BUS TO PARADE: Parade spectators can avoid traffic congestion and limited downtown parking by taking the DTA to and from the parade. Route and schedule information can be obtained by calling 722-SAVE. Additional buses will be provided after the parade to accommodate the rush after the parade.

Beginning Monday, January 17, the Aerial Lift Bridge will be restricted to one-lane, one way traffic. The signals at the bridge ends will be used to keep traffic flowing one lane at a time. In addition, intermittent day time bridge closures will be required for work crews to install materials and construct painting enclosures. These closures should not last more than 15 minutes per occasion and will occur throughout the duration of the construction project.

The construction work, one-way traffic restrictions and periodic bridge closing is scheduled to continue to March 15.

Regular route to entrance of St. Scholastica, continue on the frontage road in front of Somers Hall, turn right on W. College Street, over bridge, and exit to Kenwood Avenue.

A shelter will be placed below Tower Hall on the frontage road.

• Eastbound buses to routes 6, 7, 10H, 11K, and 13 will travel eastbound on Superior Street, north on Lake Avenue, east on 2nd Street and regular route.

Construction on Third A.E. between Superior Street and Michigan Street began Monday, April 18 and will be closed to traffic for two months. Buses will detour via First Street onto 2nd A.E. where temporary bus stops will be placed. This detour is expected to continue for two months.

Outbound buses will detour from Raleigh Street to 58th Ave West - Then right on Redruth and right on 59th Ave West and back to regular route.

Outbound detour will be the reverse.

Detour is expected to last until 5:00PM on April 19th.

This detour will only affect west bound traffic. East bound traffic is not affected.

Route 18 – UMD/CSS via Rice Lake Road and Arrowhead Road – operates from September through May, in conjunction with Fall and Spring Semesters at UMD.

Route 18 provides service between the College of St. Scholastica, UMD, Campus Park Housing, Boulder Ridge Apartments, Summit Ridge Apartments and Highland Village Apartments. This route also provides timely connections to Miller Hill Mall buses at Central Entrance and Pecan Avenue; and was widely used by UMD and St. Scholastica students throughout the past school year.

Route 18 will resume service on September 6th – the day after Labor Day.

All eastbound buses between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. will detour be regular route to 2nd Avenue West and Superior Street, then detour south (right) on 2nd Avenue West, east (left) on Michigan Street, north (left) on 1st Avenue West, east (right) on Superior Street and regular route.

The following Route #9 weekday trips serving LSC will be extended during summer session (June 1 through July 26):

Traditionally, these Route #9 trips are provided only during fall and spring semester and suspended during the summer months; but requests from LSC have prompted the DTA to extend them through LSC’s summer session this year.

Beginning with this past New Year’s Day (January 1, 2011), the DTA introduced the operation of holiday services in Duluth. The DTA will operate a limited holiday service schedule (similar to the Sunday level of service) on all major holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Holiday service, however, will only be provided in Duluth. Prior to New Year’s Day 2011, the DTA had not provided holiday services since the early 1970s.

Beginning Thursday, June 9, Tenth Avenue East between First and Second Streets will close for construction work and DTA routes 6 and 7 will detour. This construction work and DTA detour will last for approximately one week.

The annual DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK DAYS sponsored by the Greater Downtown Council will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 6 - 9. Regular fares will be collected for the days of the event. The detours listed and hours that they encompass will change for each day of the festival. 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6. Superior Street will be closed from 4th Avenue West to Lake Avenue beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the closure will extend from 5th Avenue West to 3rd Avenue East beginning at 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Detour 1 will be used during the daytime hours of the festival Wednesday, beginning at 8:00 a.m., and detour 2 will be used after 3:00 p.m. and until 9:00 p.m.

DETOUR 2: For Wednesday night (3:00 p.m. to 9 p.m.) during the Classic Car Show

On Wednesday evening, July 6, there will be a Classic Car Show on Superior Street between 5th Avenue West and 3rd Avenue East beginning at 3:00 p.m. Buses will detour during this time as follows:

Street Dances will be held on Friday night on two separate blocks of First Street from 6:00 p.m. to Midnight. The two street dance areas will be between 1st and 2nd Avenues West and between 3rd and 4th Avenues West. These areas will be closed to all traffic

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night, all eastbound and westbound buses will run regular route. Eastbound buses will run Superior Street, 2nd Avenue East, 2nd Street and regular route. All buses that are pulling in to the garage along 1st Street will need to detour to Superior Street to return to the garage.

Saturday, July 9

All buses return to normal routing until 5:00 p.m., when a Street Dance will be held in the 100 Block West of Superior Street.

Beginning Wednesday, July 13, construction work will begin on Swan Lake Road resulting in a detour of Route 14 buses, which will detour as follows:

FROM DOWNTOWN: Buses runs via regular route to Swan Lake Road and Maple Grove Road, then detour west on Maple Grove Road, south on Cottonwood and regular route.

TO DOWNTOWN: Reverse detour routing.

This detour will remain in effect throughout the construction on Swan Lake Road.

Beginning Friday, July 8th, DTA service to and from Walmart will be permanently changed. Route #5 buses will no longer enter the Walmart parking lot; but will service all passengers at a single bus stop boarding area on Mall Drive.

Route 5 buses will continue to provide service to and from Walmart; but only on Mall Drive, which runs adjacent to the Walmart parking lot. Route 5 buses will serve the County Jail and the Airport before stopping at Walmart. For passenger safety, Route 5 buses will buses will drop off passengers and board passengers at the same bus stop and at the same time on Mall Drive.

Route 5 (West-to-the-Mall-Area) buses provide service between the Zoo, Lake Superior College, the Miller Hill Mall area, Walmart and Airport via Grand Avenue, Piedmont Avenue and Trinity Road. Connections between downtown buses and Route 5 buses are made at the Door 8 Bus Stop at the Miller Hill Mall.

The Duluth Transit Authority and the City of Superior will provide Special Evening Service between downtown Duluth, downtown Superior and the Head of the Lakes Fair, beginning Wednesday, July 13 and continuing through Saturday, July 16.

The special evening service to the Head of the Lakes Fair will depart downtown Duluth hourly at the Holiday Center from 6:15 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., with service along the #17 South Superior route. Return trips from the Fair will run hourly from 6:40 p.m. with the last return trip to downtown Superior and downtown Duluth leaving the Fairgrounds at 10:45 p.m. (See schedule below.)

Special Evening DTA routing to the Fairgrounds will run as follows: West from the Holiday Center in Duluth along Superior Street to Garfield Avenue, Blatnik Bridge, Hammond Avenue, Broadway, and Tower Avenue to the South Superior Fairgrounds. Return routing to downtown Duluth will be in reverse.

Daytime DTA Service to Head of the Lakes Fair on Route #17

Daytime bus service to the Head of the Lakes Fair is available on the DTA's regular #17 Route weekday service. Route #16 Duluth-Superior buses from Duluth make timely transfer connections at 14th Street & Tower Avenue in downtown Superior with Route #17 buses.

Sunday Service to Head of the Lakes Fair

The DTA provides regular route service to the Fair on Route #17 from 10:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Sunday. The last route #17 bus departs the Fairgrounds on Tower Avenue at 5:40 p.m. and makes transfer connections in downtown Superior at 14th & Tower with the Duluth-Superior route #16 bus at 6:08 p.m. Route #16 Duluth-Superior buses also provide service to Superior on Sunday – connecting with Route #17 buses to the Fair.

Down 5th Avenue West instead of 6th Avenue West between Superior Street and Michigan Street when making the loop from Downtown to Harbor Drive.

Route 5 service to Walmart will be temporarily suspended on Monday, August 1st, due to road construction on Mall Drive.

The DTA will resume service to Walmart once construction work allows for safe operation on Mall Drive and for the safe boarding and de-boarding at the Walmart bus stop.

Passengers wishing to go to Walmart are advised to use the bus stop at the intersection of Mall Drive and Haines Road.

On Thursday, between the hours of 6:30 and 8:00 PM, the Spirit Valley parade will travel from 59th Avenue West & Grand Avenue, east on Grand Avenue to 46th Avenue West.
Grand Avenue will close sometime about 6:00 pm. When the barricades are placed, buses will detour as follows:

On Tuesday, August 2, 2011 neighborhoods throughout Duluth are holding events for Crime and Drug Prevention. Two of these neighborhood events will cause DTA buses to detour.

West 3rd Street between 27th and 28th Avenues West 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m

Westbound buses will detour by regular route to 27th Avenue West and 3rd Street, then detour south (left) on 27th Avenue West, west (right) on 2nd Street, north (right) on 28th Avenue West, west (left) on West 3rd Street and regular route.

Eastbound buses will use the reverse routing.

4th Street between Lake Avenue and 1st Avenue East 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.

Outbound Route 10 buses will detour by regular route to Lake Avenue and 2nd Street, then detour east (right) on 2nd Street, north (left) on 1st Avenue East, east (right on 4th Street and regular route.

Inbound will detour by regular route to 4th Street and 1st Avenue East, then detour south (left) on 1st Avenue East, west (right) on 3rd Street, south (left) on Lake Avenue and regular route.

OUTBOUND: Via regular route to 45th Avenue East and Oneida Street, then detour west (left) on Oneida Street, north (right) on 43rd Avenue East, cross Glenwood Avenue and continue on Oakley Street, east (right) on 47th Avenue East, north (left) on Crosley Avenue and regular detour route.

The detour is expected to last until mid September.

Third Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets in Proctor will be closed during the Hoghead Festival; and route #3 buses will detour throughout the Hoghead Festival with a separate detour during the parade on Saturday.

Hoghead Festival Detour – Thursday through Sunday, August 17-21

DTA buses to Proctor will run regular routing to Boundary Avenue and Fifth Street, then detour via Boundary Avenue to Zenith Terrace, Boundary Avenue to Fifth Street, then detour via 5th Street, 2nd Avenue, 2nd Street and regular route.

DTA buses from Proctor will run detour in reverse.

This detour will end at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 22nd.

Hoghead Car Show Detour – 3:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17

During Wednesday’s Car Show, DTA buses to Proctor will run regular routing to Boundary Avenue and Fifth Street, then detour via Boundary Avenue to Zenith Terrace, Boundary Avenue, Fifth Street, First Avenue, Second Street and regular route.

DTA buses from Proctor will run regular route to Second Street and Third Avenue, then detour on Second Street, Second Avenue, Fifth Street, Boundary Avenue to Zenith Terrace and regular route.

Hoghead Parade Detour – 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 20

During Saturday’s parade, DTA buses to Proctor will run regular routing to Boundary Avenue and Fifth Street, then detour via Boundary Avenue into Zenith Terrace, Boundary Avenue, Highway #2, Second Street and regular route.

DTA buses from Proctor will run detour in reverse during the parade.

After the parade, DTA buses will return to the “Festival Detour.”

Route 16 buses will detour as follows:

OUTBOUND: Via regular route to Highway 2 and 50th Avenue East, then detour by continuing east on Highway 2, north (right) on 53rd Avenue East , west (right) on 3rd Street, north (left) on 52nd Avenue East, east (left) on 4th Street to route 16 layover point.

INBOUND: From layover, via 4th Street, east (right) on 3rd Street, south (left) on 57th Avenue East (Moccasin Mike Road), west (left) on Highway 2 and regular route.

These 9-LSC trips are only provided during fall and spring semesters. In addition to Route 9-LSC service, Route 5 buses provide hourly service to LSC on weekdays from 7:29 a.m. to 6:29 p.m.

Lake Superior College joined the DTA’s U-PASS Program in 2001. U-PASS ridership growth at LSC has been phenomenal, with monthly totals from July 2010 to June 2011 as the highest since the program was established. U-PASS ridership at LSC in 2010 totaled 156,986 – an all-time high. U-PASS ridership at LSC for fall semester 2010 was 16,031 – the second highest monthly total since the program began. Ridership at LSC for 2011 is projected to surpass the 2010 total.

Route 4 - inbound detour - Regular route to Bristol Street, right on Bristol to Mike Colalillo Drive and regular route.

This will be an all day closure

The DTA had previously suspended service to Walmart due to construction work on Mall Drive and for the safe boarding and de-boarding at the Walmart bus stop.

DTA routes #13U (East Fourth Street / UMD) and #18 (UMD-CSS via Rice Lake & Arrowhead Roads) will return to service on Tuesday, September 6th after being suspended during the summer months.

Route #18 provides weekday service along Arrowhead Road and Rice Lake Road between Pecan Avenue and Central Entrance, with stops at Campus Park Housing, Boulder Ridge, Summit Ridge Apartments, College of St. Scholastica and UMD.

Route #18 service is provided from September through May during fall and spring semesters; but does not provide service when UMD is on semesters or holiday breaks.

Route #13U provides additional support service for route #13 (UMD – Woodland via East Fourth Street) during fall and spring semesters where student ridership is traditionally strong. Only the route #13U trip departing the Downtown Transit Center at 7:15 a.m. is operated year-round.

Route #13U buses will begin service to UMD from Sixth Avenue East and Fourth Street this year rather than downtown Duluth, with the exception of two trips departing the Downtown Transit Center at 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. All route #13U trips departing UMD will continue to provide service to downtown as in previous years.

Route 5 passengers are advised to pick-up a new hand schedule or check the website for new boarding times.

Down 5th Avenue West instead of 6th Avenue West between Superior Street and Michigan Street when making the loop from Downtown to Harbor Drive.

OUTBOUND: Via regular route to Catlin Avenue and 21st Street, then detour east (left) on 21st Street, south (right) on Hill Avenue, east (left) into Mariner Mall at the entrance near the store fronts, continue along the perimeter of the parking lot to the Medical Clinic, then normal routing across the front of the Mall, out the exit onto Hill Avenue and regular route.

INBOUND: Via regular route to Hill Avenue and Mall entrance near the store fronts, continue on route across the store fronts and clinic stop, then run along the perimeter of the Mall parking lot and exit the Mall where you came in, north (right) on Hill Avenue, west (left) on 21st Street, north (right) on Catlin Avenue and regular route.

Beginning Monday, October 3, construction work will close Ramsey Street between 53rd and 54th Avenues West. Route 4 buses will detour as follows:

OUTBOUND: Via regular route to Ramsey Street and 53rd Avenue west, then detour north, (right) on 53rd Avenue West, west (left) on Wadena Street, south (left) on 54th Avenue West, west (right) on Ramsey Street and regular route.

INBOUND: Reverse of outbound routing.

The construction work and road closure is expected to last approximately one week.

Beginning Monday, October 10, the eastbound lanes of Grand Avenue will close for the completion of the construction work. This closure will result in the detour of Route 1, 2 and 5 buses that are inbound (eastbound) on Grand Avenue. During the week of October 10 through approximately October 16 inbound Route 1, 2 and 5 buses will detour as follows:

INBOUND: Via regular route to Grand Avenue and Raleigh Street, then south (right) on Raleigh Street, north (left) on 59th Avenue West, east (right) on Grand Avenue and regular route.

OUTBOUND: No detour.

This bus stop will remain closed for approximately one week to ten days.

Buses will detour left (west) on 1st Street to 2nd Avenue East, then turn right (north) on 2nd Avenue East and right (east) on 2nd Street returning to regular route.

The detour will last the rest of the day (October 3rd, 2011)

No detour in Inbound Direction

The detour is expected to last approximately 2 weeks.

The march will begin at the Depot and travel north on 5th Avenue West, east on Superior Street, south on Lake Avenue to the DECC.

Eastbound traffic lane on Superior Street between 5th AW and Lake Avenue will be closed to traffic as well as the southbound traffic lane on Lake Avenue and westbound on Commerce Street.

All eastbound buses will detour as follows between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.:

Via regular route to 5th AW and Superior Street, south on 5th AW, east on Michigan Street, north on 1st AE, east on Superior Street and regular route. The route 10 bus will travel north on 1st AE, west on 1st Street , north on Lake Avenue and regular route.

The 10:10 a.m. bus to Route 15 (tentative detour; if this changes dispatch will inform) travel south on 5th AW, east on Michigan Street, south (right) to ramp entrance to freeway, west on ramp to 5th AW, south on 5th AW, east on ramp to northbound I-35/Lake Avenue, exit to Lake Avenue and regular route to Park Point.

Duluth Transit Authority buses will be detoured from Superior Street, between Fifth Avenue West and Lake Avenue from approximately 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to accommodate the annual Christmas City of the North Parade on Friday November 18, All DTA buses regularly scheduled to travel through the downtown area during the parade will follow the standard DTA parade routing on First and Second Streets.

BUS TO PARADE: Parade spectators can avoid traffic congestion and limited downtown parking by taking the DTA to and from the parade. Route and schedule information can be obtained by calling 722-SAVE or at www.duluthtransit.com. Additional buses will be provided after the parade to accommodate the rush after the parade.

The DTA will revise Route #20 routing and schedule times beginning Monday, January 2.

Schedule times will be slightly revised with downtown departures 5 minutes earlier and Hermantown Park & Ride departures 8 minutes earlier. 

The new routing will be as follows:  Buses from downtown will travel on 6th A.E. - Rice Lake Road - Airpark Blvd. - Haines Road and Arrowhead Road to the Hermantown Park & Ride; and run non-stop express routing to downtown on Arrowhead Road, Hwy. 53 and Central Entrance to 6th A.E. and 9th Street en route to the Holiday Center. Route #20 service on Arlington Avenue will be discontinued.

The DTA introduced the operation of holiday services in Duluth last New Year’s Day (January 1, 2011) and has operated a limited holiday service schedule (similar to the Sunday level of service) on all major holidays in 2011: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Thanksgiving Day, along with the upcoming Christmas Day. Holiday service, however, is only provided in Duluth. Prior to New Year’s Day 2011, the DTA had not provided holiday services since the early 1970s.

Holiday service schedules are highlighted on all passenger hand schedule’s Sunday section and on the DTA website – www.duluthtransit.com.

The DTA and Fond-du-Luth Casino have partnered to provide FREE DTA service all day on Saturday, December 31 with FREE service extended on the busiest routes as late as 1:50 a.m. on New Year’s Day to accommodate those celebrating New Year’s Eve.

The DTA and Fond-du-Luth Casino are encouraging the public to “Play It Safe” on New Year’s Eve by riding the bus! All major areas in Duluth and Superior will be covered with special “after midnight” bus service for New Year’s Eve.

The DTA appreciates the generosity of the Fond-du-Luth Casino in paying all fares on December 31 and sponsoring the extension of service after midnight. Without their support, this would not have been possible. Normally, DTA service on Saturday is scheduled to end well before midnight with the last departing downtown Duluth at 10:50 p.m.

• Route #1 on West Mainline to Zoo – 9:20 p.m. and 10:20 p.m.
• Route #2 on West Mainline – 11:50 p.m., 12:50 a.m. and 1:50 a.m.
• Route #6 East Mainline to UMD – 10:45 p.m. and 11:45 p.m.
• Route #7 on E. Mainline to Lakeside – 9:05 p.m., 10:05 p.m. and 1:40 a.m.
• Route #10 Duluth Heights / Mall – 11:15 p.m. and 12:40 a.m.
• Route #11K East 8th Street / Kenwood – 11:40 p.m., 12:40 a.m. and 1:40 a.m.
• Route #13 East 4th Street / Woodland – 10:10 p.m. 1:45 a.m.
• Route #16 Duluth-Superior – 8:50 p.m., 9:50 p.m., 10:50 p.m., 11:50 p.m. and 12:50 a.m.

The DTA is suspending routes 13U and 18 seasonal during spring break from Friday, December 23 through Monday, January 16. Service will resume on Tuesday, January 17, when spring semester begins.

Route 18 provides weekday service along Arrowhead Road and Rice Lake Road between Pecan Avenue and Central Entrance, for Campus Park Housing, Boulder Ridge Apartments, Summit Ridge Apartments, College of St. Scholastica and UMD.

Route 13U provides additional service between downtown Duluth and UMD along Route 13 (East 4th Street – UMD – Woodland) whenever UMD classes are in session during fall and spring semesters.

Routes 13U and 18 are only in service during fall and spring semesters whenever classes are in session. These routes do not provide service during the summer months, semester breaks or holidays.

All route 9LS (Piedmont / Lake Superior College) trips have been suspended during semester break – Monday, December 19 through Friday, January 6; except the 9LS trips departing the Holiday center for LSC at 8:20 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. These two morning 9LS trips will, however, be suspended on December 26 and January 2, when the campus is closed. Full Route 9LS service to Lake Superior College will resume on Monday, January 9.

Route 13U and 18 buses will return to service on Tuesday, January 17 – the start of Spring Semester.

 OUTBOUND:  Regular route to 3rd St & 24th AW, then continue on 3rd St to 25th AW, 25th AW to 5th St, 5th Street to 24th AW and regular route. 

INBOUND- no detour at this time if it is closed buses will run reverse of outbound. 

This detour should last all day.

A march and rally commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held in the Downtown Duluth area on Monday, January 16, from 11:30 AM until approximately Noon. The route of the march is: beginning on Lake Avenue and 4th Street, the march will proceed down Lake Avenue, west on Superior Street, down 5th Avenue West to the DECC.

The march may temporarily block Lake Avenue between 4th Street and Superior Street. Some delay for buses in the Downtown area is possible. Any necessary detour routing off of Lake Avenue will be directed as needed. Only a portion of Superior Street and 5th Avenue West will be used for the march.
