DTA Bus Operators take 2nd and 3rd Place at 29th Annual MN State Bus Roadeo

DULUTH, MINNESOTA (July 11, 2016) – Bus Operators from across the state showed-off their professional driving skills this past weekend at the 29th Annual Minnesota State Bus Roadeo held in Winona, MN. The event was hosted by Rolling Hills Transit and ORC. Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) bus operators Paul Mattson from Hermantown and Rick Roser from Two Harbors placed Second and Third respectively in the Large Bus Division Competition.

The event features bus operators from transit systems throughout Minnesota that meet annually to compete against each other in a series of obstacles that challenge their safety knowledge and driving abilities. The event is coordinated by the Minnesota Public Transit Association (MPTA) who works in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). A maximum of 50 points is possible at each obstacle with volunteer judges working in pairs at each to manage the score sheets accordingly.

Official scores for both the Large and Small Bus Division Competitions are listed below…

Top honors in the Large Bus Division Competition went to Jack Berner, representing Metro Transit in the Twin Cities, who had a score of 607. The DTA’s Paul Mattson earned the Second Place title with a score of 592.  Third Place honors went to the DTA’s Rick Roser who had a score of 569.

First Place in the Small-Bus Division Competition was earned by Todd DeZurik from St. Cloud Metro Bus with a score of 629. In Second Place was David Peacock also from St. Cloud Metro Bus with a score of 609. In Third Place was T.J. Johnson from Transit Alternatives in Fergus Falls with a score of 565.

The 2016 Duane Duner Memorial – Drivers’ Choice Award went to Chris Daniels from Rochester Public Transit (RPT).
