Northwest Passage to reopen on Wednesday, August 20th

Published: Expires: 8/22/2014

Demolition on the western side of the Wells Fargo parking lot adjacent to the Northwest Passage was completed today ahead of schedule. The Northwest Passage was reopened at 2:00 p.m. today and will be open until next summer’s planned closure in June. DTA shuttle buses will continue running today through 5:57 p.m., but the shuttle service will not run Wednesday, August 20th. Citizens who parked in the DECC parking lot can continue to use the shuttle today.

The Wells Fargo Bridge over Michigan Street to the Northwest Passage will not reopen yet. A ramp is being constructed within the bridge to make it ADA accessible. That construction should be complete by September 2, 2014.

When the demolition is completed on September 2nd, a temporary skywalk will be opened that connects the Northwest Passage to the Wells Fargo Bank Building. In the meantime, way-finding signage has been displayed in the Skywalk, at the DTA Transit Center East and at the intersection of Superior Street and 3rd Avenue West. Citizens are encouraged to follow these signs to the temporary stairwell that is located on the lower corner of Michigan Street at 3rd Avenue West. Please look for the sign that reads, “Skywalk Access to DECC and Bayfront.”
