For Your Safety

Please follow these rules of safety and courtesy:

  • Tobacco use, eating, or drinking, are not allowed on the bus.
  • Please take your trash with you. Do not litter the floor or leave trash on the seat.
  • Upon boarding the bus, please be seated as soon as possible.
  • Once you have requested a stop, please remain seated until the bus completely stops.
  • After getting off the bus, please refrain from walking too close to the side of the bus.
  • When boarding or getting off the bus in wintry weather, please be careful on the steps. They may be icy or slick.
  • Please refrain from talking to the bus operator while the bus is moving. Passenger safety is the driver's main concern.
  • Loud radio playing is not allowed on the bus. While you are welcome to use earphones, keep in mind that "too loud" is when other passengers can hear your music.
  • On bad weather days, help us accommodate more passengers by moving to the rear of the bus.
  • Never stand beyond the yellow line in the front of the bus. This is distracting and limits driver's field of vision.
  • Animals, other than service animals, are not permitted on the bus unless they are in an approved animal transfer cage.
  • If you board the bus with a stroller, make sure it's folded and out of the aisle.
  • Please take time to report anything unusual or unsatisfactory to your driver.
  • The DTA's Policy for Profanity on DTA buses or transit facilities is ZERO TOLERANCY. If you use profanity or wear clothing with profanity displayed you will be directed to leave. If you refuse, you will be in violation of Minnesota state Law 609.855 - Crimes against transit providers and operators subdivision 2.6 and will be subject to arrest and prosecution.

Other Policies

DTA Stroller Policy

Guardians are allowed to keep children in the stroller while on the bus, if they chose. Guardians are advised to keep the child secured in the stroller seat and to hang on to the stroller while the bus in motion.

Children in strollers are encouraged to be stowed in the wheelchair tie-down section on the bus or along the front seats, where the aisle is wider. Strollers stowed in wheelchair section are not required to be tied down; but must be secured by the guardian. DTA drivers will assist riders with strollers in folding up the seats in the wheelchair tie-down section upon request.

When the wheelchair section and front seats are occupied on the bus, riders with children in strollers can stow them in the aisle as long as they are not blocking passengers boarding or getting off the bus. If the bus is crowded, the stroller can be folded up and child placed on its guardian’s lap until a wheelchair slot or front seat is available.

Riders boarding buses with children in strollers can request that the ramp or lift be deployed for safe and easy boarding.

Stroller Policy Guidlines:

  • Stroller Size - Only strollers less than 32" wide will be allowed on the bus. Multiple-seated strollers wider than 32" will be required to be folded-up prior to boarding.
  • Bus Capacity – Children in strollers will be permitted on DTA buses provided they do not impede the safety of other passengers or the bus operator.
  • Wheelchair passengers have a priority for the use of the wheelchair section on the bus. A passenger with a stroller occupying that space may be asked to move.
