Port Town Trolley Returns this Summer on Sunday, June 2
Published: Expires: 6/21/2013
Route shortened to maintain a 30-minute schedule for passengers.
DULUTH, MINNESOTA (May 21, 2013) – The Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) will return the Port Town Trolley to the streets of Duluth for the summer on Sunday, June 2. Due to congestion delays last summer, the DTA Board of Directors approved shortening the Trolley route in April. This summer, the Port Town Trolley will not provide service east of Lake Avenue – eliminating service to Fitgers Inn, Greysolon Plaza and the Fond-Du-Luth Casino. Traffic congestion and delays at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Superior Street and at the “turn-around” across the street from Sir Benedicts Tavern was a major factor in this decision.
The Port Town Trolley circulates every half-hour between downtown Duluth, Canal Park and Bayfront Park. It operates on a daily basis from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through Labor Day.
It provides service to downtown and Canal Park hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions. This convenient service provides visitors an affordable option for getting around town to see the sites. This summer, the Port Town Trolley will operate along Superior Street from Lake Avenue to Sixth Avenue West and includes routes along Canal Park Drive and Harbor Drive.
The Port Town Trolley stops at all downtown bus stops along West Superior Street including the Holiday Center and the Radisson Hotel. Additional stops include: The Depot Heritage Arts Center & Railroad Museum, Bayfront Park, Great Lakes Aquarium, Vista Fleet Excursion Dock, S/S William A. Irvin, the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace, Maritime Visitor Center, the Aerial Lift Bridge and other locations along Canal Park Drive.
The Port Town Trolley fare is only 50 cents with children four and under riding FREE. Unlimited-ride Trolley Day Passes are available for only $4.
