Paying for Your Ride
Validate your fare card or deposit cash directly into the farebox when boarding the vehicle. You must have the exact fare amount if paying with cash. Drivers do not make change and fareboxes do not give change.

Make your Boarding Faster with EZ Card!
Free with minimum purchase of $5.00, our EZ Card makes boarding simple, and the farebox will detect your EZ card while boarding the bus without taking the card out of your wallet or purse.
EZ Cards are available at the Duluth Transportation Center (DTC) or the DTA Operating Center.
Fare Cards
Fare cards are rechargeable cards that can be charged in $5 increments up to $25.
*Fare cards with stored monetary values are valid for only one year from time of purchase.
*Damaged fare cards can be replaced with original receipt at the Duluth Transportation Center (DTC) and DTA Operating Center, please call in information before going to get the replacement.
Fare Passes
Fare passes are available for unlimited travel on busses and trolleys. They are not rechargeable but are transferable.

DTA fare passes provide unlimited travel on buses and trolleys. DTA passes are transferable; but not on the same bus by another person and must be in the possession of the passenger using it to pay the fare. Fare Cards can be used by more than one fare-paying rider at a time.
Fare boxes accept $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills and U.S. coins. for paying multiple fares and purchasing One-Day Passes. Canadian coins not accepted.
Transfer Cards are free upon request when boarding and valid for one hour after requested from bus operator. Use the Transfer Cards on any DTA route.
Maximum of three children ages 4 and under ride free when accompanied by an attending passenger age 13 or older.
Disabled American veterans get FREE transportation on regular route DTA buses. Any disabled American veteran who displays a Department of Veteran Affairs Service Connected identification card or SC card will be afforded FREE public transportation.
If riders require a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) to assist them while traveling due to a disability, the PCA is eligible to ride for free.
A PCA must travel from the origin to the destination with their client in order to not pay a fare. If a PCA does not exit the bus at the destination of the client, they will be required to pay the fare for the remainder of their trip. Companions are not considered PCAs. All companions must pay the fare for each ride.
PCAs also travel for free with their clients on DTA’s STRIDE Paratransit service.

Superior Schools Pass Program
Superior Schools Student and Faculty Pass for Secondary Students
The Superior Public School District and the City of Superior are pleased to announce that all secondary students can ride DTA buses for free. This is aimed at creating greater access for students and staff within the district. This program provides an “all access” pass for middle school and high school students, along with staff.
To ride the fixed route or STRIDE Paratransit services, students and staff can show their school-issued ID to the bus driver, and enjoy fare free service to and from school, and any other destinations within the DTA/STRIDE area of service.
The year-round program is paid for by the City of Superior, and can be accessed more easily by downloading the free Transit App from the Google and Apple play stores. The Transit App can help plan your trip, track buses, and make our system even more approachable by simplifying the trip planning process.

Duluth Schools Pass Program
Duluth Schools Student and Faculty Pass for Secondary Students
Duluth Public Schools and Duluth Transit Authority are excited to announce that beginning Jan. 16, all ISD 709 staff and high school students will be able to ride DTA buses for free with a district issued student or staff ID.
This partnership is a pilot program to allow both entities to determine the need and demand for such a program. The pilot program runs through June 6.
“This program and partnership hits on every one of our strategic directions: supporting every student, advancing equity and improving systems. We are extremely excited to offer this option to our students and staff as a way for all of them to get to work and school safely,” said Anthony Bonds, assistant superintendent of teaching, learning and equity. “This school year we decreased our transportation radius for students to 1 mile from their school and this partnership will allow us, and the DTA, to cover that 1 mile radius in an equitable way.”
There are no restrictions on when students and staff can utilize this amazing program. It can be used on the weekends and nights. Our hope is that students will be able to use this program to attend after-school programs and events or to get to and from work if they have a job.
Students are expected to follow the same behavioral standards while riding buses as are expected on school property or at school activities, functions, or events in accordance to our Student Handbook. All school rules are in effect while a student is riding the bus or at the bus stop.
