DULUTH, MINNESOTA (July 31, 2015) – The Phase 2 nighttime closure of northbound I-35 is scheduled to begin on Sunday night, August 2nd at 9:00 p.m. and daytime partial-lane closings of northbound I-35 are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 3rd.
Effective Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., Railroad Street will reopen. During the Phase 2 nighttime closure, the detour will be via 5th Avenue West, Railroad Street, and Lake Avenue and then back onto the freeway.
The Phase 2 daytime work involves a single lane closure of northbound I-35. The northbound ramp onto I-35 from 5th Avenue West will be closed and so will the frontage road alongside North I-35 that goes to Lake Avenue. Drivers heading north will be directed to use the Railroad Street Detour.
Beginning on August 3rd, The Duluth Transit Authority’s (DTA) DECC & Downtown Shuttle Bus (Route 22) will use Railroad Street with the main stop located just below the Northwest Passage. The Shuttle Bus will no longer enter the DECC parking lot to pick-up passengers.
5th Avenue West will remain open during the daytime in Phase 2 of the project. However, it will be closed during the nighttime when both North and South I-35 are closed. This will occur each night starting on August 9th at 9:00 p.m., reopening at 6:00 a.m. the following morning and continuing for the next four nights (8/10, 8/11, 8/12 and 8/13). The ramp alongside northbound I-35 between 5th Avenue West and Lake Avenue will reopen on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
