Port Town Trolley returns for summer on Sunday, June 2
Published: Expires: 6/2/2013
Trolley route shortened in effort to maintain 30-minute schedule
The DTA will return the Port Town Trolley to the streets of Duluth for the summer beginning Sunday, June 2. Due to numerous schedule delays last summer, the DTA Board of Directors approved the shortening of the Trolley route this summer at its April Board Meeting. Trolley schedule delays in recent years have resulted in low ridership and unreliable service; and the DTA opted to shorten the Trolley route rather than going to a 40-minute schedule. This summer, the Trolley will not provide service east of Lake Avenue – eliminating service to Fitger’s, Greysolon Plaza and Fond-Du-Luth Casino. Nearly all the Trolley schedule delays in recent years have occurred due to traffic congestion at the intersection of Lake and Superior Street and at the “turn-around” across the street from Sir Benedict’s.
The Trolley, which circulates every half-hour between downtown Duluth, Canal Park and Bayfront, operates on a daily basis from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the summer until Labor Day.
Trolley serves downtown & Canal Park hotels – restaurants - shops & attractions
During the Summer of 2013, the Trolley will operate along Superior Street between Lake Avenue and Sixth Avenue West, along Canal Park Drive and Harbor Drive.
The Trolley stops at all downtown bus stops along West Superior Street including: the Holiday Center and Radisson Hotel. The Trolley also serves the Depot Heritage Arts Center & Railroad Museum, Bayfront Park, Great Lakes Aquarium, Vista Fleet Excursion Dock, S/S William A. Irvin, the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace, Maritime Visitor Center/Aerial Lift Bridge and other locations along Canal Park Drive.
Trolley fare is 50 cents – Trolley Day Passes sold on Trolley for $4
The Trolley fare is 50 cents with children four and under riding free. Unlimited-ride Trolley Day Passes are available for $4 on the Trolley and Downtown Transit Center.
